The DTA offers two types of cash assistance; Transitional Aid to Families with Dependant Children (TAFDC) and Emergency Aid to Elders, Disabled, and Children (EAEDC).  To receive cash assistance under the TAFDC program, the individual applying must have children or be pregnant.  TAFDC is a cash assistance program available to individuals who do not qualify for other cash assistance program.  The amount of either grant is based upon family size, living situation, and income.

The Social Security and Supplemental Security Income disability programs are the largest of several Federal programs that provide assistance to people with disabilities. While these two programs are different in many ways, both are administered by the Social Security Administration and only individuals who have a disability and meet medical criteria may qualify for benefits under either program.  Another website that may be helpful is www.DisabilityInfo.gov.

CICRF helps families bear the excessive financial burdens associated with the care of children with special health care needs and disabilities. CICRF is a payer of last resort. CDC provides behavioral therapy and educational services for the entire South Shore area. CDC works with children who are struggling with the activities of daily living. Some of our clients have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, Developmental Delays or other social pragmatic disorder. The United Way of Greater Plymouth County is a locally run chapter of the United Way of America that supports non-profit agencies. They work with children and youth centers around child care assistance, social and emotion needs and learning, positive relationships with adults inside and outside the family. They also work to strengthen focus on addressing basic needs, assisting people in finding long-term employment and helping people find permanent housing support. They  also advocate for social issues, convene community leaders to solve local human services problems, study and address long-term solutions to emerging social challenges, and raise funds through campaigns and individual donors.

Utility and telephone discounts are lower rates charged to low-income customers for gas, electricity, and telephone service. Massachusetts law requires regulated gas and electric utility companies to offer discounted rates to customers who receive public assistance benefits and meet income limits.

MassHealth is a public health insurance program for eligible low and medium-income residents of Massachusetts. MassHealth is the name used in Massachusetts for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), combined in one program.  There are many different aspects of the MassHealth Program.  www.massresources.org is a very informing website that will answer many questions that you may have about the program.

Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

WIC is a food and nutrition program for low-income women and children who are not getting all the nutrients they need. WIC gives free healthy food and nutrition counseling to pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and young children. WIC's goal is to help women and children eat better and stay healthy. WIC also provides support for breastfeeding mothers.  Single Father’s are also encouraged to apply.

SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, is a government assistance program to help low-income households pay for food. SNAP used to be called the Food Stamp program. The amount of SNAP food stamps a household gets depends on the household's size, income, and expenses.

Angel Food Ministries is an organization that provides food relief to communities throughout the United States.  Families are provided with approximately $65 worth of groceries for $30.  This will feed a family of 4 for about a week or a single senior citizen for about a month.  Angel Food Ministries participates in SNAP program.  There are no qualifications, minimums, income restrictions, or applications.  Everyone is encouraged to participate.
