                     Bette and Jack Guilfoyle

The Arc of Greater Plymouth mourns the loss this summer of two treasured
members of one of The Arcs’ founding
families. On May 28, 2010 we were deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Jack Guilfoyle, 42, our friend and longtime
supported employment client. Jack was a cherished employee at the YMCA in Hanover where he took great pride in his job as men’s locker room attendant. He is truly missed by all of us, especially Jack’s job coach of eight years, Ann Moore, and all the fellow employees and members at the Hanover YMCA.
On Tuesday August 3, 2010 Jack’s mother Mary Elizabeth “Bette” Guilfoyle died at the Mass General Hospital in Boston , less than 3 months after the burial of her beloved Jack.
Bette and her husband Don, longtime treasurer of The Arc of Greater Plymouth Board of Directors, were members of the small group of parents of special needs children who in 1966, founded the organization that became The Arc of Greater Plymouth. The commitment and support of both Bette and Don Guilfoyle and the growth and success of their exceptional son Jack are shining examples of our mission in action. We will miss both Bette and Jack deeply, and send our heartfelt
gratitude and sympathy to their grieving family.
The Arc of Greater Plymouth plans to establish the Jack
Guilfoyle Scholarship for Lifelong Reading Skills, in honor of the commitment of both Jack and his mother to continuing reading education.

Text Box: TEEN ESSENTIALS
Imagine being a teenager, and suddenly finding yourself away from home with nothing to call your own.

Please help The Arc’s Employment Advisory Committee give back with your donations of basic personal care items for teen-agers in Foster Care. We will then take the donations and create kits that will be delivered to The Department of Children and Families (Formerly DSS) who will then distribute them to those in need.  Thank You.

Pennies for Heroes

Help us collect Pennies for Essentials needed by American Soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan
Pennies are found every day. In pockets car seats, and on the ground. Think about what they all add up to. The Arc of Greater Plymouth sees those pennies adding up for America’s Heroes who place their lives in danger for us every day.
Pennies for Heroes will turn pennies into basic necessities for American soldiers. The Arc’s Employment Advisory Committee has dedicated Pennies for Heroes in memory of Carol Ames.
Carol Ames lost her battle with cancer on September 4th 2010. She was mother and friend to all. Her passion was her family and American Soldiers that fought to keep us safe and free.
“Every Penny Found Remember Me
Every Penny Found Remember our Troops
Who Stand for our Freedoms Every Day
Every Penny Found
Place in a Cup
And When you Get Enough
Set Them Free
To a War Hero, With Love From Me”
Donations of pennies can be made at The Arc’s office, 10 Cordage Park Cir, Suite 208. Further locations TBD.

Text Box: HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF FAMILY SUPPORT!
October 27, 2011 6PM-8PM Beal House 220 Main St Kingston
The Department of Developmental Services (DDS), together with local Citizen Advisory Boards and Family Support Centers, wants to hear your ideas about the future of Family Support services in Massachusetts.
A series of meetings will be held to give you an opportunity to talk about what you need to support your family member at home and in your community. We need to hear from you about what’s working, what’s not working and what’s missing that would make your family’s life better.
It’s critical that we hear directly from you so that a plan for the future can be developed that really reflects your needs. This is not a presentation but an opportunity for us to listen to you and learn more about what you need. We encourage you to attend one of these meetings and make your voice heard.
PLEASE COME
