Respitality Program to Begin Again

Local Hotel to Donate Overnight Stays

Over 10 years ago, the United Cerebral Palsy Association in Atlanta created a program called Respitality, a combination of respite and hospitality. Basically, the idea was to provide families who received respite services for their children to be able to use that respite service to get away for a weekend at a local hotel, enjoy a dinner for two, relax at a spa, etc., In 1997, the Arc of Greater Plymouth began making Respitality a reality her in the Plymouth Area.  Arc families who wished to participate simply filled out an application and the names went into a hat for a monthly drawing.  Local businesses were generous with requested contributions.

We heard from the Pilgrim Sands Motel in Plymouth this January.  Steve and Dave Harrington, owners of Pilgrim Sands, remembered the Arc Respitality Program and offered monthly overnight stays at their oceanfront hotel, to participants.  We are contacting other local merchants, restaurants, beauty shops, wineries, etc., in hopes that they will also be generous again, and contribute to our program.

We sent our first lucky mom away for a night in February, and Mama Mia's donated a dinner out for her during her stay. We hear she had a great time. Many thanks to Pilgrim Sands Motel and Mama Mia's for making this a memorable time for this deserving mother!

So, cross your fingers, pack your bags, and fill out the application for Respitality today!
We hope you will soon be enjoying a well deserved "time away" through Respitality!

For more information, or an application, contact Malissa Kenney, Director of Family Support at the Arc office.
